CONCEPT

Insanity is a condition whereby the sufferer is of unsound mind. Depending on the condition of the individual, he or she may be prone to fits of uncontrollable violent behavior, hallucinations, or other symptoms.

Overview

Insanity is a condition that one suffers when they are not of sound mind. An insane individual has lost the ability to grasp reality and its social norms. Depending on the specific psychological condition, such an individual may as a result be a threat to his or her own health or to the well-being of others around them. However, not all forms of insanity induce violent behavior. Over the years, numerous methods have been concocted to treat the mentally ill. Some patients may live a reasonably well-adjusted life, so long as they receive the proper therapy and medication to treat their condition. Others that may be beyond help and that pose a significant threat to themselves or others are committed to an institution, where they are watched over in a safe environment where doctors may attempt to treat them away from the pressures of the outside world.
