M90 Shotgun

The M90 Shotgun is the resident UNSC close combat weapon. It is a very large and heavy weapon.

The shotgun can kill a fully shielded player in one shot at point-blank range, making it an effective close range countermeasure against melee lunges, including Energy Swords and Gravity Hammers. Failing that, one shot plus a melee is a popular technique for killing players instantly. It is not as effective in the campaign, where it is actually outclassed by the hammer and sword. In Halo 3, it is effective at longer ranges than in Halo 2. 

 Because of its power, players will often use it to camp. They will wait in enclosed areas or aroung corners, or obtain active camoflauge and wait around a corner for enemies to come back. Countermeasures include kamikaze grenade sticking, and fighting a shotgun with another shotgun.
