Let me start of by saying this: This game is amazing and everyone who loves craziness, shooting and throwing dudes into things that blow up don't bother reading the rest and play this game! To everyone else, this review is off the memory of me playing it atleast a year ago and comparing it to new games that are out.
You play a dude, Nick Scryer..ish. He's a super soldier that's trained in the mental powers that apparently all people have but can't use... but he can! Such things are telekenisis, which allows you to move stuff with your mind. And by move stuff I mean throw dudes in to explosives and vice versa. Pyrokenisis lets you make fire and throw it at dudes or explosives. Reading this you might think this game is all about dudes and explosives and you'd be wrong!
There's a girl involved too. She's some lady that saves Nick from being imprisoned by the bad guys and they help each other solve what's going on with this. Because Nick has amnesia! This is also the explanation used to not give you all your powers at once. Powers including such magnificance such as: Mind control! You go in to the body of the baddies and make them run around and jump in to electric floors. (Secret tip 1: If you hold down both R3 and L3 for atleast 10 seconds the person will shoot off their own head!). Another sometimes helpful ability is remote view. You get to float around and see where the baddies are ahead of you.. or secret codes on the other sides of doors! Oh boy!
Other than that there's a big story that hold it all together and a bunch of ridiculous bosses that each specialise in 1 of the abilities. They're pretty sweet and the different locales that you are taken to are a pretty good variety that don't end up in corridor hell like some shooters.
And to wrap it all up, you get a "practice room" to "practice" your special powers. But all it really is, is a room full of barrels, boxes, bombs and bad guy spawns for you to mess around with. It's quite fun and shows off the physics in this relatively old-timey game. But no matter how "old-timey" people say it is, it's awesome! I cannot stress that enough.
Comparing it to recently released Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, it still comes out the victor. The controls and aiming system in the Star Wars game were not fit for the kind of havoc one wants to create with the ability to throw people. Blasting open doors isn't that great when you can blow up people's heads in Psi-Ops, too. I'd say play Psi-Ops on your backwards-compatible machine (if you can find it).
If it hasn't gotten through your face yet, play Psi-Ops. Yes, the ending is the worst thing ever, especially since Midway is too busy making Mortal Kombat games every half-second (even though MK vs DC looks sweet) that they aren't making a sequal to the only game that heartily deserves one!
