A crushing trap is a trap that is designed to cause either Instant Death (Concept) or significant harm to the player. An example of a crushing trap that does not cause Instant Death are the Thwomps from the Super Mario Brothers series. Although, in games like Wario Land 3, crushing traps just make the player change form, henceforth not really a "trap" at all. Sometimes the player just sees the character become flat like paper and therefore just loses an Extra Life (Concept), although some M-Rated games go the path of being more realistic by adding blood and gore to the table, one of the most well-known gorey crushing traps is in Mortal Kombat X (Game) during Tremors fatality. Crushing traps may also just cause the player to look at a still image just mere seconds before the playable characters death. This means that you never see the character get crushed, but you know it happened by sound or loss of a life.
