I get really fucking excited. When that game is the latest Call Of Duty game (Infinity Ward, of course) my excitement plateaus at a state of paralysing apprehension and fear. Once a game reaches the status of hype that precedes... well, the greatest games of our generation, it's all or nothing. Meeting expectations is never really enough. It has to surpass, or fall into a shadowy corner of history and only be spoken of in hushed whispers. Meeting the quota is, more often than not, considered failure. It's a harsh reality in which we operate.
Where the fuck is T-Pain when you need him? I played through the solo campaign in a single sitting. I went back almost immediately afterwards and soaked up some of the easier achievements. Then I hopped into multiplayer for a few hours. I can't stop playing it. The game has it's flaws - an enthusiasm for melodrama, and so many over the top set pieces that the plausible illusion of reality is all but completely removed - but in terms of videogame entertainment it's almost... humble? It's a first person shooter. And it's a fucking great first person shooter.Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (and I shall henceforth use it's full name as it deserves better than a cheap acronym) is a fantastic game. The pre-release issues people had about this game - lack of dedicated servers, etc - have become painstakingly petty in light of what is a truly terrific experience. You can bitch and moan all you want, I can't really be fucked to argue - but Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is fantastic despite any beef you might have.
If, for whatever reason, you have decided not to play it; it is you who is losing out.
I have a throwing knife with your name on it.
