I finished Red Dead Redemption

 and, as promised, the culmination of events delivered the bread-crumb trail of awesome that I was repeatedly assured existed. I'm not sure it justifies the slog through Mexico but it was pretty awesome to experience nevertheless. Arriving in Blackwater spurred (aha) the first actual commitment to the game since it begun - in that I didn't want to stop playing. I completed the last 4 or 5 hours in one sitting. There is a point in Red Dead Redemption where things get strange. The game supposedly ends, but then continues with a fantastically elevating tension. The pacing lures you into a false sense of security and then, amidst the confusion, shit get's real. The balance of your dynamic with the surrounding cast, mixed with the pacing of the narrative overall, is pretty fucking spectacular. If nothing else this has restored my faith in Rockstar as developers who understand and cultivate the way videogames are made, as oppose to simply throwing together the ingredients and hoping they fuse in to some sort of exotic gumbo. 
 

I'm stuck at my parents house for the weekend with not much to do. My laptop is completely fucked. It will: 
  • Show everything in Italics, every webpage or text document, no matter what I write or what font I use. I think the Ariel and Times New Roman fonts got corrupted somehow? 
  • Only run in 16 bit. Any higher and my screen flashes black briefly, then I get a Blue Screen Of Death. Dell and Microsoft are a combination of champions. Champions that I fucking hate. 
  • Take about 30 minutes to do anything. I don't really understand this, but it makes the combat of Flotilla (the one game that will run) even more delicately slow. 
  • Transformice. You know who you are.
