London Games Festival 2008

2008 Apparently there is this huge gaming thing called The London Games Festival which happens every year (in London apparently) and is all about "Video Games". This is news to me, but GOOD NEWS so i'm not complaining. The strange thing is I lived in London last year and I never heard about this so I guess I am just an epic FAIL. Anyways I did some research and apparently - Its going to be awes...

Anyways I did some research and apparently - Its going to be awesome. According to Wikipedia all this stuff happened last year -

"Highlights in 2007 included:
  • The Soho Project, that offered players a chance to take part in a mass ‘reality game’ on the streets of Soho, via the website
  • Games AV - a live concert, screening and club night features musicians, DJs, VJs, film-makers, animators and digital artists whose work has been shaped by video games culture.
  • Sense of Play 07 was a one-day symposium which looked at the future of game design featuring some of the most inspiring voices working in the industry today. Produced by Toby Barnes and Jon Weinbren the event in 2008 will look at how other creative disciplines are working with and around the games industry.
  • Skills Week. A week long series of seminars aimed at new entrants to the industry, students and people who are keen to break into the games industry
  • A drop-in Lounge at 01zero-one in Soho was open to all festival attendees, where you could hang out with the people behind the games, absorb the buzz of the festival, and enjoy the the ZeroGamer exhibition which featured “…games that play themselves, video documents of in-game performance, game engine experiments and challenging documentaries on gameplay.” "

That sounds amazing, and I am now super stoked. For me the Computer Games Industry was always happenening at places that were physically unreachable to me - USA, Tokyo, Lipzig, etc. This is my first real chance to see this stuff happening first-hand. LGF doesnt kick off till october 25th, a few months away, but i'm definately going to go check it out. If anyone else is planning on going let me know!

I downloaded the Braid trial, but when I went to my XBLA blade it wasnt on my list of demos. Now I have to download it allover again. I will let you know if I ever get to play it... *UPDATE* Download finished, playing Braid now. Impressions coming soon =)

Watched the Olympics Opening Ceremony on HDTV and it blew me away. If I was being cynical I would point out that its just an elaborate way of hypnotising us into forgetting about the whole polluting the world thing, but visually it was a stunning acomplishment to watch. We British are completely fucked in 2012, there is no way we are going to be able to comete with that. I bet we end up just throwing out Led Zep and hoping for the best.
Mind you, that would still be awesome...
