The argument for this is that the product has not been designed for me, me being someone who plays Call Of Duty, Dead Rising and, lately, Eve Online. I sympathise that microsoft needs to spark new interest, broaden their playerbase and gently massage an ethos of comfort into their mysterious, capitalist shareholders. I also appreciate that Kinect in itself is not for the purposes to which I automatically apply it - in that it would not work with the types of games which I play. It's not going to replace the controller, it's functionality seems complimentary at best.At least, this is what I tell myself to stop my brain from slowly melting and dribbling out my nose.
The true joy of E3 is in finding new experiences to look forward to. I watched the demo of Gears Of War 3 and, while it lacked any real excitement it satisfied my curiosity. It's still Gears Of War. That's all I needed to know. Halo Reach as well is, predictably, more Halo. Halo with a twist, perhaps, but Halo nonetheless. You must know by now whether this is good or bad. I sure as fuck do.
The games I am most excited for received moderately little coverage.
Limbo was given a whole 3 seconds of camera time, a game that has me shivering with apprehensive excitement. Fez and The Last Guardian were both either absent or fucking stealth, for I saw neither of them. Dead Rising 2 is probably the game I am looking forward to most this year as a result of it being a fucking Dead Rising game viz. fucking awesome.The titles that have bounced to the top of my list include:
El Shaddai
Which is fucking stunning. I'm getting a heavy Zeno Clash vs Okami vibe. It looks beautiful, with a stylish flair that is wonderfully fresh. Also it's got that bizarre Japanese touch which I love like mayonnaise.XCOM
A game which I was ignorant of until giantbomb shed light upon it's mangled corpse. I approve of the dark brutality of it's combat, though i'm not sure I could stomach an entire game of shooting black symbiotic lifeforms off the walls. Time will tell.Journey
Another of the games that make me really wish I owned a PS3, though I do not doubt my scrounging abilities come the release of the game. Genova Chen is a bit of a hero of mine. I look forward to listening to Vinny whine about why he doesn't like this game.
IN OTHER NEWS
I passed my driving test. In England this is a big deal, though I gather in America every child from about the age of 6 knows how to drive a car. One would assume that's because every road in America is wide enough to fit a Hummer, though I have received no official confirmation on this. In England we have roundabouts. That's like orbiting a piece of the road.DEAL WITH THAT IN YOUR MIND, YANKS.
