Image found on Official PlayStation forums. Well PS3 Firmware 3.0 has come and gone with some good changes and some not as much. Love the legendary battery overlapping fix and the animated themes (the Afrika theme on the Japanese PSN is pretty neat idea where this can go). But also brought a series of unwanted or surprise changes. 
 
The most disturbing change for me was the Friends list is now comprised of a series of very ugly gray boxes surrounding each PSN username. The second unwanted change is the font size (after 3 years) has increased in size for title items (along with a few others). I can understand that is does make it super easy to read now, its very distracting to long time users.
 
Some additions like the additional store links and What's New ticker I can live with but I can understand why users don't like them. The problem is that a major error on the Firmware team's part comes from the fact that the user is unable to disable the ticker (most likely due to a bug as an option does exist in the System Settings) or revert the Font changes. I am also unhappy at these undocumented and unwanted changes but can deal with most of them except the Fonts and Friends List.
 
Well the internet, in all its glory tends to overreact (like the image shows) but in this case there are some issues with the firmware that need to be sorted. The things Sony seems to have forgotten is that user control is key and by forcing changes upon them tends to get a negative reaction. While the Firmware Team has gone on record as saying this is the last major update this year, everyone hopes that 3.01 will hit and at least fix or modify some of the changes.
 
So far the only good news to come out of this firmware is that it doesn't brick machines like major updates have been known to do.
 
Well Sony the ball is back in your court, it's time to pick it up and issue a fix.
