What Ever Happened To God Mode?

There are times in games that I feel the need to just play to get to the other side. I understand that gameplay is what differentiates a "game" from any other source of entertainment, and gameplay is what makes titles like Call of Duty and God of War standout from the rest, but there are a certain selection of games where I find the experience enthralling, but is forced to do go through weak gameplay to get to it. The ultimate example that most Giant Bombers can relate to is Deadly Premonition. We've found out through interviews that the actual shooting segments were thrown in last in the production of the game, and it shows as the worst part of the game. As a gamer, I understand why it's there, but just think how much more Brad Shoemaker would have enjoyed the game if he could get through the Wall Crawling lady the first time, and not have to restart so many times?

Currently, I'm slodging(is that a word?) through Alpha Protocol's outdated gameplay. It has it's moments, but none of those moments are from compelling gameplay. The only thing I keep thinking of is how cool would this game be if I had infinite sneaking cheats turned on, so I could at least have fun while playing through the parts that are mediocre at best.  Sadly, there are no cheats for Alpha Protocol. Here is a website that shoes the cheats for the game, remember when cheats were button combinations and cool? Now it's just a bunch of achievements and common sense(Veteran difficulty is unlocked when Rookie has been beat? Really!?).

"God Mode" isn't a cop-out either. One of 2008's funnest and most enjoyable games was the Prince of Persia reboot from ubisoft. If you fell off a ledge, don't worry. If an enemy kicked your ass, you can get right back up and give him another try. The point of Prince of Persia was to experience the unique world that they put you through, just like the point of Deadly Premonition and Alpha Protocol was to go through its narrative. Not all games need to be this way(for instance, the point of Call of Duty is the gameplay), but "God Mode"(whatever you wanna call it) can hold your hand throughout the game and show you to all the cool stuff.

It just sucks that I have to return Alpha Protocol to gamefly without finishing it because the gameplay is unbearable at times. I was really interested with its concept and it seems to have done a great job nailing that bit, but I just can't play it anymore.
