Backlog 365: Day 28 - Freedom Wars

For Backlog 365 I plan on playing one game on my backlog everyday this year and write about it. For each game I will decide if I want to put it on my "Shelved" list (games that I plan to come back to and play in depth) or put it on the "Retired" list (games that I will delete or sell and move on with my life). I ended up playing Freedom Wars a number of times because I couldn't decide whether to shelve it or not. Each time I played it I would waffle between shelving and retiring the game. I ended up checking out a review to see if it could give me a long view on the game, but the review ended up being unhelpful. It wasn't a bad review it just turned out that I had the exact opposite feelings toward that game. The reviewer hated the story, but that was the thing that had me hooked the most. I really like Freedom Wars story and world. I want to know more about it, which is the main thing drawing into the world. I'm not a big anime person, but I would totally watch a Freedom Wars anime.

I saw the the game is suppose to be Monster Hunter-esque - I haven't quite figured out what that means. I played some Monster Hunter, but never put in enough time to really figure out what it was all about. But I do know that Monster Hunter is one of those games that is a monstrous time suck (see what I did there), so I was worried that Freedom Wars is going to be one of those endless times sucks. However, it appears that it might be a reasonable 40 hours. Not being able to find any good reason to disqualify Freedom Wars I think I'm going to shelve it. I think I'm going to starting a precedent that if I'm not sure about retiring the game, then I'm going to put it on my shelved list in order to test the game again at a later date.

Judgment: Shelved
