Hollow Knight: Silksong2025

4.5 out of 5 stars

Hours Played: 29:00 A sequel that perfectly iterates upon and improves from the original. It captures the same elusive balance of wonder and tension of the first Hollow Knight (and most other great Metroidvanias) while improving the pacing and quality of life of the combat and exploration. Did it frustrate me at times? Yes, absolutely. I think I was up for the abuse though and solving some of the tougher boss fights…

The Séance of Blake Manor2025

5 out of 5 stars

Hours Played: 16:00 The next step past The Return of the Obra Dinn has been made and it is glorious. A meaty adventure game with a wonderful mystery to unravel and an ever present ticking clock that ratchets up the tension. It can feel overwhelming at first but stitching together the rather large tapestry of characters, motives, events, and clues is one of the most satisfying works of magic a developer has ever…

Slay the Spire II2026

4.5 out of 5 stars

Hours Played: 110:00 I have seen pretty much everything you can see in Slay the Spire 2 so far. I did the same for Slay the Spire. It is a perfect bite-sized formula of deck builder that I can bash my head against and the multiplayer adds a new avenue to enjoy it through. It does kind of just feel like an expansion of the first in the current early access state but I'm okay with that.

Big Hops2025

3 out of 5 stars

Hours Played: 14:00 The core gameplay of Big Hops is really solid but a lot of the surrounding structure of the game is not as strong. A really odd jumble of kind of open world levels strung together without a good hub or way to travel between locations. Ran into numerous glitches too.

CrossCode2015

4.5 out of 5 stars

Hours Played: 55:00 My core complaints about Cross Code really just come down to how much there is of the game. It has so many phenomenal ideas and design philosophies stuffed into it that feels overwhelming at times. The combat is very complicated to master but more or less intuitive, the puzzle design is unimpeachable in complexity and cleverness, and the world itself is intricate and infinitely explorable. The…

Mina the Hollower2030

3.5 out of 5 stars

Hours Played: 23:00 A great take on the top-down 2D Zelda genre filled with ideas, interesting play, and intricate design. The tower sequences were a cool concept but never felt good, I think there is a reason there was no punishment there for dying... because it would have made many people rage quit if there was like everywhere else in the game. Great ending.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

3.5 out of 5 stars

Hours Played: 35:00 A surprisingly linear game that often felt like an 80s action movie. I never beat the original game but it is surprising how much they managed to stuff into the first Midgar section. The main cast is developed wonderfully but all the extra stuff around Shinra just felt like teasing bullshit. I liked but did not love the combat and the level and quest designs were all rather mediocre.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX2013

2.5 out of 5 stars

Hours Played: 22:00 Kingdom Hearts feels like a mediocre PS2 game which means it feels like a really bad modern game. The platforming is floaty and difficult to do with a wonky camera, the combat is rudimentary with a clunky magic system and an awful lock on system, the Gummi ship sections are random filler, and the combat waves/random encounters on almost every screen in the game are interminable. Some of the world…

Donkey Kong Bananza2025

4 out of 5 stars

Hours Played: 32:00 Nintendo nailed the complete joy of smashing shit in Bananza and managed to iterate on ideas enough to keep the core mechanics fresh throughout its rather substantial amount of content. I got bogged down trying to 100% the game for a while entering the final stretch before I realized that getting everything started to hamper my enjoyment rather than satiate my standard completionist hunger.

Unicorn Overlord2024

3.5 out of 5 stars

Hours Played: 43:00 The core gameplay of this had just enough to keep me hooked all the way through even if everything else around it was stock standard and forgettable. The only part of the game I had any issues with difficulty wise was literally beating the last unit in the final mission, had to really game everything and spam all the resources I had saved up throughout to pull out a victory.
