A sequel that perfectly iterates upon and improves from the original. It captures the same elusive balance of wonder and tension of the first Hollow Knight (and most other great Metroidvanias) while improving the pacing and quality of life of the combat and exploration. Did it frustrate me at times? Yes, absolutely. I think I was up for the abuse though and solving some of the tougher boss fights or platforming sequences always felt worth it. The world within the game is equally odd and endearing and so are all of its inhabitants and that is what really elevates this above many of the other games in the Metroidvania genre.
