Sonic the hedgehog 1 was an outstanding game at the time, the Gameplay, music, and presentation was all pretty good, Sega was finally comfortable with what they want for their mascot and knew exactly what to do for the sequel. Sonic the hedgehog 2 released November 1992 hitting the market with praise and overall being a good sequel to the original game. Sonic the hedgehog 2 unlike it's predecessor is packed with more levels, boss fights, and secrets. The level design is thankfully more focused and well designed, polishing out the junk that Sonic 1 had, Boss fights were given more depth and challenge especially the final boss, and theirs more exploration and secrets in levels waiting to be discovered. The presentation is even brighter and crisper than Sonic 1 and the music is pretty nice too (tho I prefer the Sonic 1 Soundtrack a little more). Controls are just as tight and smooth as Sonic 1 but this game also adds the spin dash allowing players to help them with gaining momentum back or just an extra burst of speed, Sonic 2 is more speed focused and feels more faster even when you move so fast the camera can't keep up with you, that's a nice addition. The special stages instead of getting 50 rings and jump into a ring at the end of the level, collect 50 rings just like before only activate the checkpoint and you see spinning stars, jump into the stars and you enter the special stage. These special stages here unlike the rotating maze and trying to grind to get the chaos emerald, makes you run down a half pipe and collect a specific number of rings, doing this 3 times you get the chaos emerald, but if you don't get the number of rings then you fail the special stage. Instead of 6 there are 7 chaos emeralds and getting the seventh one allows you to become Super Sonic (if you have at least 50 rings), Super Sonic allows you to breeze through the level and become invincible, your speed increases and Sonic looks like Super Sayin (however the number of rings you collect will begin to disappear as soon as you become Super Sonic so collect as many as you can to stay as Super Sonic). Overall Sonic the hedgehog 2 is a pretty awesome game, just about (almost) everything in this game improves and fixes everything in Sonic 1, It's also the best selling Sonic game ever. I Definitely recommend Sonic the hedgehog 2.
