First of all, this is one of the most terrifying experiences you will have. I did not say it was the scariest game because it goes beyond that. It's an experience. I'm the kind of person that appreciates a good back story (I'm one of those weirdos that reads the manual before playing the game), and EA have created an impressive universe around this game that greatly contributes to the experience.
The mechanics will seem familiar to most gamers (a third person, over the shoulder view where one trigger readies your weapon and the other trigger fires), but it is the little touches the help separate it from the pack. Your character's suit supplies armor and a limited amount or air while at the same time makes you seem more vulnerable due to relatively slow movement. The weapons are actually engineer's or miner's tools with the exception on an assault rifle. I was impressed with the creativity of most of the weapons, but there are few of them and unfortunately the game doesn't encourage you to try them all. The game could easily be completed using only the plasma cutter (the first weapon you will come across in the game).
These issues are not anything that take away from how much fun you will have, but coupled with the lack of multiplayer, they lead to a lack of replayability after you've finished the 12 hour campaign. The has been out a few months now and MSRPs for $40. You owe it to yourself to pick up this game for that much.
