2014 was a pretty sub-par year for video games if I'm gonna be honest. (I've spent the past year just pining for the The Witcher 3.) Yet there are a few games that came out this year I'd like to give major props.

I would say this rivals Psychonauts as the funniest game I've ever played. I should also say that have a large affinity for all that is created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and this game is more a less the poster child for their.... unique style of humor. Whether I was exploring the town of South Park or spelunking through a gay man's rectum, The Stick of Truth kept me riveted.
I don't think Dark Souls II is a better Dark Souls game than the first, but I only compare them because they share the same name, because the two are really an apples vs oranges argument. On it's own game, Dark Souls II is a phenomenal game, filled with more crazy bosses (Smelter Demon), punishing difficulty, and vague story. I would say that the game is a bit linear in how exploring a certain area brings you to a dead end and sends you back to the hub world to try a different path and the secondary characters are MUCH less interesting than my main men Siegmeyer and Solaire, but Dark Souls II is a fantastic game worthy of anybody's time.
Punishing and brutal. I've played the game on normal for the most part and I feel like every battle is an endurance match of some sort. The story is interesting enough, channeling other fantasy series such as A Song of Ice and Fire, but the lack of dialogue in everything but the cut-scenes is a bit disappointing. I'm enjoying what I've played a lot however.
Left Behind DLC: The DLC was very brief, but it was cool to see Ellie's back-story about how she was first infected. I feel like it could have been included in the base game though as it shows how Ellie took care of Joel during his R&R time period.
I included this last year as well for the first episode, but I still enjoyed the series this year. (Can't say the same about TWD....) The conclusion was a bit too ambiguous for me, but I'm down for season 2.
Hard but fun. I won't say I'm an expert, as some of the objectives are pure lunacy, but a couple hours with this game is worth it.
Didn't see this on Steam until this year, but man if it isn't a lightning quick 2D platformer. Just keep pressing down and everything is good to go.
Wouldn't say it made me too scared but it is a tense 5 nights.
