It was kind of an off year for games, but there were some gems. I'm omitting games that I played, but was disappointed with such as Home Front, Ms. Splosion Man, Child of Eden and most XBLA games I played this year. It's fair to say that if the game made this list I really liked it. I'm tempted to make a list of games I wish I would have played (Catherine, Assassin's Creed Revelations, Professor Layton and the Last Spector, El Shaddia, etc).

Responsible for my introduction to dubstep and the consumption of around 65 hours of my free time. The game is fucking crack and the most difficult thing I've ever tried to explain to people.
This was the only game this year with genuinely heart racing moments and one of the few single player games I've played twice. It's funny too-- one of the rare games that proves that writing for games doesn't have to be complete shit.
This would have been my game of the year if it came out last year. It claimed the place in my heart that Bayonetta filled last year and almost tempted me to give the Resident Evil series another try. The memory of this game that I'll always keep with me is when I played it at my Mom's house and cringed every time Garcia Hotspur yelled, "Taste my big boner!"
I think it was far inferior to Uncharted 2, but still a fine game no less.
Excellent game. Only 3DS title to make the list by a fucking mile, and I've played a few.
