Multiple Endings, but no "True Ending"

by franzlska

Games which have multiple endings, but which never declare or seem to suggest that one is the "best", or even more true than its peers.

To keep it fair: if a game would fit but an ending is undeniably canonized in a sequel (such as Dishonored), it doesn't count. Also, if a game would fit but still labels it's endings as "good", "true", "best", etc. it's disqualified (sorry, Tsukihime.)

Dark Souls

The entire series, pretty much. While it's a little debatable per entry, your options are usually "prolong the crumbling status quo a little longer" or "walk away and let whatever happens happen".

The Song of Saya

The Song of Saya

It's my understanding that the ending where Saya overwrites the world is generally regarded by fans as "the good ending". But it felt clear to me that all three endings are roughly equal - much to the game's strength, each outcome is bleak but fully satisfying tonally and thematically.

Bastion

Bastion

I've soured on the ending of Bastion a fair bit since it came out, but it certainly goes to great lengths in its final moments to make turning back the clock not seem like the obvious best choice.
