Overview
The 1980s was a decade that began on January 1st 1980 and ended on December 31st 1989. The decade was best known for being the end of the Cold War, introducing laissez-faire capitalism to the western world, and the crack cocaine epidemic of the United States.
In the modern day, the 1980s is often retrospectively viewed as a nostalgic time period by many people. The decade has been heavily influential for fashion, pop culture, music and video games.
Music
The 1980s was best known for introducing New Wave music, a genre influenced from post-punk and synthpop. Several synthpop / New Wave musical groups, predominantly from the United Kingdom, emerged from this decade such as Frankie Goes to Hollywood, the Human League, Yo-Yo, Simple Minds, Tears for Fears and many more.
This decade was also the rise of glam metal / hair metal, much of these acts originated from the United States such as KISS, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, and Quiet Riot just to name a few.
Game Appearances
Many games are commonly set in the 1980s, examples include Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Hotline Miami, and Scarface: The World is Yours.
