I unironically love the gushing Vinny does for Jennifer Hale at multiple points in this episode. She's very good.

On a related note, I remember thinking when I started the ME series (after it was finished and ME1 was ported to PS3) that it seemed... unbalanced, who they got to do the Shepard voices. You've got Mark Meer, who at the time of ME's inception, was a newbie to voice acting; and a genuine veteran of twenty years in the industry with Hale. Not to downplay Meer, but it seemed to me, if you cared about performance in a dialogue-drenched game series, the choice was obvious.

Oh, yeah! Good to have you back, Commander Alex. I guess that's actually X-COM, huh? Happy you decided to bring Tali back. Not only was that some bullshit, but when you're talking about including or excluding a main character from a game like this, unless some monumentally different stuff happens if you choose to exclude them, it really seems pointless and punishing to do it for any other reason than roleplay. Especially in an LP like this, it really seems more like a question of "would you like more content, or less content?"

@rocketskates: It's my personal favourite AKI engine game. It's actually really good.

Of course, looked at another way, I suppose if you never liked the AKI games, this game is just a very fleshed out one of those.

@ultimaxe: I watched Blade Runner in film studies in high school and had pretty much the same reaction; and granted, the person I was in HS was a very less introspective and open minded person, but even I had seen one or two "can robots feeeeeeeeeeeeel?" stories by that point and Blade Runner felt like something that inspired the hell out of ALL of those stories, but that made it hard to go back to. Kinda like going back and watching Psycho and remembering "Oh, right! This movie ENDS by explaining its - now practically common knowledge - twist to you."

I appreciated the quiet moments where it just let you draw conclusions based on what you were watching, which is obviously something that is only notable because of the terrible theatrical release, but still.

Luckily, Detroit: Become Human exists, so we can experience "Blade Runner, but this time the androids are the good guys." Thanks, David Cage!

@ryno9881: I don't mean to respond with the F Plus internet forum special ("I didn't have that problem. Goodbye!") but to me, the final boss felt like the moment when everything the game had been building up to with its mechanics all came together and "fit" just right. That said, I've heard this issue enough from other people that I'm beginning to think I'm maybe in the minority.

That fight wasn't my favorite in the game, the fight with Gen atop the tower strikes the best balance between punishing and encouraging progress to me. And it wasn't even the hardest (fuck you, Hatred Demon), but I guess I found it to be the best designed? I mean, difficulty and fun are both so subjective; I've NEVER had a final boss in a From game feel as good as this did, so I definitely get the sentiment.

@lonelyspacepanda: Google, of all companies, playing the "long game" with a service that won't be making a good profit for multiple years at a time...? Yeah, they have a great history that supports that they'll totally do that!

A quick search of the Google Graveyard shows that a Google product which is eventually killed living past 3 years is uncommon, and past 5 an utter rarity. Good luck, Stadia. Hopefully Google has a better plan for you than to just can you the second you aren't printing money.

@stanleypain: I don’t think anyone was saying that to put Brad’s experience down, though. They likely simply meant “you experienced those pre-release - and that sucks - but I have not. The day one patch may have cleared up those issues.” As much as I don’t like the “go gold with multiple issues, patch ‘em later” style of AAA game development, both Brad’s and others’ comments on this are valuable for everyone.

Great review, Brad! Even if these issues continue to plague the game next week, I will probably still get it, since everything it gets right speaks to me in a way a game I (hope to) like can.

@aostroff: I think for the most(?) part, people are just upset about Dan spending the extra time trying to complete the Women's Revolution match, something he surely does not care about in actuality. But yeah, I agree, this was real good. All of this quick look was great to me, with the Ladder Bullshit match being the standout.

I can't believe that we found out that Ribbie was the one who the Undertaker transferred his soul to! Unfortunately, only a sentient eyes and mouth made the trip, so a costume was necessary.

@cannibaltooth: They apparently have "plans for console releases". A VERY short search didn't turn up anything on when, though.

The thing with Dan's complaint that he wishes it emulated an action game more both makes sense and seems 100000000x harder, even just in concept, never mind execution. The thing that makes the John Wick movies so fun and engaging to me is never being 100% sure how Wick is going to handle a given dude.

Step on foot - hit face with gun barrel - shoot in stomach, causing forward lurch - knee to face - double tap shots to chest and head - enemy defeated

OR

Single shot through eyeball seconds after enemy appearance.

Unless you can capture that kind of chaotic nature to the gunplay, I see no point in making a John Wick game. That's why I was so excited for this, because all the cool "gun idiosyncrasies" would be taken care of simply through gameplay, with little need for fast-thinking input from me. That said, I can also see why Dan wouldn't like how this was handled, but I think it looks dope. But then, I'm someone who will fight to the death over Transistor > Bastion, so that says everything in this case. I'll be waiting with bated breath for whichever console port is most convenient to me.

"That just seems so counter to like the big the best part of Borderlands 2 billions of God the bill. Yeah was like, you know fucking pull the gun slot machine everytime."

Honestly the harshest review of Borderlands 3 I've seen so far. Roasted, Pitchford.

Welp, time to try to go into a forgetful cryo sleep related to this game until the PS4 version comes out, because thinking about how cool it looks will just make me sad. God, I wish my computer was... anything other than shit.
