Nice, reminds me of Star Wars: Empire at War(?) in that it's a big board game with light RTS elements. Also makes me want to play more Sins of a Solar Empire, which had much heavier RTS elements to it and a little less abstract resource management. And pirates. Lots of pirates.
You're like one of those teachers who don't give 100s because there's "no such thing as a perfect paper." Just make 101 perfect, then. What's the point of a scale if you're not going to use part of it?
Roguelikes are clones of Rogue, a 1980 ASCII-based RPG. We've been using the term to mean this for 36 years
Roguelites feature elements of Rogue and Roguelikes, but aren't clones of Rogue. This term has been around since probably the original Spelunky came out
I don't think Nintendo has the ability to produce an amazing Mario or Zelda game anymore.
Also, Sunshine is great. Jeff is crazy. I think he just doesn't like the controller. It's a full game with an added jetpack. That's it. It's Mario 64 2 + Jetpack and Water Gun.
Double Fine has announced that they're doing Full Throttle next
I assume the same team of art and sound interns will be remastering that one. Can't wait to see how it turns out, it has always been my favorite adventure game
Dan seemed to be the most gung-ho about VR, so hearing his comments on the Rift here are really revealing.
It was kind of ridiculous, especially Dan's part of the discussion. For years now the gaming press has been gushing about VR to an audience that largely had no access to it. And now they've collectively arrived at a big 'meh' when those demos and prototypes are actually somewhat finished and available. I don't know what that tells me. To not listen to anymore demo experiences? They are all so experienced with that stuff, they are usually better at putting things into perspective.
Always take things said by the press with a grain of salt and never buy into the hyped until you have had a hands on with the product in question.
Nah, I kinda come to GB because they are veterans and can usually look past the PR layer, I trust their impressions. It's just the take on VR over the last years that has me a little baffled.
I think it's more that they're gung ho about the technology, not so much the demos. There's always been the idea that the technology works, so hopefully in the future there will be software that takes advantage of it and introduces this new medium to a wide audience. Nothing in the official Rift store seems to do that.
The games press in general does tend to hype up the industry they cover a lot more than you would expect out of "journalism" (though this is enthusiast press, not political or even technological journalism), but I feel like Giant Bomb's coverage has mostly been "This demo was cool because the technology works!" not "This demo was cool because that was a good game!"
