The Dagger along with the Talisman was gifted to the first Schattenjager of the Ritter bloodline by St. George as tools to ward away the dark, supernatural forces in the world. The Ritter Dagger has the ability to slay evil, in whatever form it takes. Unlike the Talisman, the Dagger never left the posession of the Ritter family.
