Neon Sign
OBJECT
A brightly lit indication of what lies within. Most neon signs are glass tubes containing electrically charged noble gases, to produce a variety of colors.

History

The first commercially produced neon signs appeared in France during the turn of the 20th century. Following World War II, the global industry grew as phosphor materials were developed for cathode ray tubes, greatly expanding the variety of fluorescent coatings available.
