Bundled with the Wii Remote Plus, Wii Play: Motion is a collection of 12 mini-games that make use of the Wii MotionPlus's gyroscopic functionality, all from several different studios.

Overview

Wii Play: Motion, known as Wii RemoCon Plus: Variety, is a mini-game collection developed by Nintendo SPD (alongside various other developers) and published by Nintendo for the Wii in North America on June 13, 2011, in Europe on June 24, 2011, and in Japan on July 8, 2011.

A sequel to the original Wii Play (Game), Motion is a collection simplistic motion-controlled mini-games designed around the Wii MotionPlus (Accessory) accessory for the Wii Remote (Accessory) and its gyroscopic capabilities. All of the included mini-games require the MotionPlus, and all copies of the game included the Wii Remote Plus (with the MotionPlus functionality built-in) as a bundle.

Rather than all mini-games be developed in-house, like the game's predecessor, Motion involves the efforts of multiple development studios, including Arzest (Company), Chunsoft (Company), Good-Feel, Mitchell, NDcube, Prope, Skip, and Vanpool (Company).

Game List

There are 12 mini-games in total, unlocked in groups of four.

Cone Zone

Unlocked from the start. Developed by Arzest (Company).

That's way too much ice cream

While holding the Wii Remote upright, players must balance ice cream on their cone by tilting the Wii Remote.

The game includes two modes:

  • Scoop Mode (★☆☆☆, 1-2 players) has the game adding scoops of ice cream onto the cone, sometimes adding huge scoops. In 2-player mode, players must take care not to have their stacks collide.
  • Swirl Mode (★★☆☆, 1 player) gives the player a larger cone and has them work to keep a continuous stream of soft-serve ice cream on it.

Veggie Guardin'

Unlocked from the start. Developed by Good-Feel.

A whac-a-mole game where players move a a mallet around like a pointer and strike down against moles popping up from five holes on the ground.

  • Guard Mode (★☆☆☆,1 player) has players attempting to guard their assortment of vegetables from waves of moles, with Miis sometimes popping up to restore missing food or give bonus points (and can be hit for a penalty). Over time, players can encounter tougher moles, such as those disguised as Miis and those requiring multiple hits to stop. Hitting moles also fills up a bar, which powers up the mallet for a short time for bonus points.
  • Versus Mode (2-4 player)
  • Recall Mode (★★☆☆, 1 player) plays more similar to Simon Says (Concept), where players have to memorize the order at which five moles (with different color hats and sound tone) pop out of the ground and smack them in the proper order.

Skip Skimmer

Unlocked from the start. Developed by Good-Feel.

So...Relaxing

Based on the art of stone skipping, players hold their Wii Remote flat, grip a flat stone by holding A and B, and throw like a disc.

  • Skim Mode (★☆☆☆, 1-4 players) is a more relaxing experience and simply tracks how many skips were made in five throws on open water. There are several different shapes and sizes of stones that can be picked up, some of which make special sounds or give special effects. The game also gives a breakdown of each throw, showing how to improve.
  • Score Mode (★★☆☆, 1-4 players) is a more stadium experience, with players scored based on skipping through floating rings and landing on a multi-point goal target in five different assortments. All stones are the same size, one of which is worth double points.

Pose Mii Plus

Unlocked from the start. Developed by Skip.

A successor to the Pose Mii mini-game from the original Wii Play (Game), Pose Mii Plus (★★☆☆, 1-2 players) changes the original to resemble more like the physical "hole in the wall" game, where players must pose their Mii in a way that they fit cleanly through cutouts in front of them.

Unlike the original Pose Mii, players choose the correct pose automatically and do not change position, and must instead twist the Wii Remote around to rotate the Mii's body in all six axis to find the correct orientation.

Trigger Twist

Unlocked after clearing the first four mini-games. Developed by Prope.

A successor to the Shooting Range mini-game from the original Wii Play, Trigger Twist (★★☆☆, 1-2 players) builds on the original's shooting gallery by having players rotate the camera around them in a first-person perspective by moving the cursor closer to the edge.

There are three themed stages: one based on the original mini-game, one where players throw shurikens at ninjas, and an on-rails segment involving shooting dinosaurs.

Jump Park

Unlocked after clearing the first four mini-games. Developed by Arzest.

A 2.5D mini-game where players tilt the Wii Remote from a vertical orientation to figure out where the Mii is going to dive down towards, using bouncy walls, bouncy floors, and power-ups to reach great heights.

  • Gem Hunt (★★☆☆, 1-2 players) is a four-stage mode where players collect an assortment of gems on the course and reach the goal as fast as they can.
  • Time Attack (★★☆☆, 1 player) uses the same stages, but without any gems to collect.

Teeter Targets

Unlocked after clearing the first four mini-games. Developed by Nintendo.

A 2.5D physics-based mini-game where players must hold their Wii Remote horizontally like a traditional controller and tilt it left and right to control blocks in order to launch a ball at a series of targets.

  • Challenge Mode (★★☆☆, 1 player) is a multi-stage series
  • Versus Mode ()
  • Endless Mode ()

Spooky Search

Unlocked after clearing the first four mini-games. Developed by Arzest.

In Spooky Search (★★★☆, 1-4 players) players make use of the Wii Remote's speaker to determine where ghosts are off-screen, grab them, and drag them towards the machine on the game screen to capture them. Miis are also there to help determine where the ghosts are.

Wind Runner

Unlocked after clearing the first eight mini-games. Developed by Vanpool (Company).

An endless runner mini-game where players have their Miis flying through a winding course using only their umbrella and an endless amount of wind gusts. To maintain speed, the player tilts the Wii Remote parallel to the direction of the gusts.

  • Solo Mode (★★★☆, 1 player) is a three-course series and focuses on collecting gems scattered throughout.
  • Versus Mode ()
  • Long Jump (★★☆☆, 1-4 players) focuses on properly using the gusts to launch their Mii a long distance off a large ramp and earn score based on distance.
  • Time Attack (★★★☆, 1 player) uses the same courses as Solo Mode, but without any gems to collect.

Treasure Twirl

Unlocked after clearing the first eight mini-games. Developed by Mitchell.

A 2.5D game where players must dive with their Mii to retrieve treasure chests without bumping into undersea hazards. To do so, they must hold their Wii Remote horizontally and tilt it to move the dive left and right, rotating it as if they're winding/unwinding the cable to raise and lower the diver.

  • Solo Mode (★★★☆, 1 player)
  • Co-op Mode ()

Flutter Fly
