Gregory Horror Show, known in Japan and in-game as Gregory Horror Show: Soul Collector, is a horror-comedy third-person survival horror game developed by Capcom Production Studio 3 (Company) and published by Capcom (Company) for the PlayStation 2 (Platform) in Japan on August 7, 2003 and in Europe on December 5, 2003. It did not get a North American release.
Based on the 1999-2001 Japanese CGI mini-cartoon series of the same name, and featuring the same 3D art style, Gregory Horror Show puts players as a guest of a mysterious haunted hotel known as "Gregory House" (managed by the old rat Gregory (Character)) as they try to escape before they lose their last bit of sanity.
Much of the game involves sneaking around the hotel, eavesdropping on its other eccentric guests, and using clues to figure out a way collect 12 bottled "lost souls" from the guests and deliver them to Death (via dreaming).
The key gameplay of Gregory Horror Show revolves around navigating the hotel and retrieving bottled souls from guests staying there. Neko Zombie, the cat, shows players the control scheme of the game. Spying in keyholes allows players to eavesdrop on guests.
Guests will usually flee if the player sees them and while still possessing a bottled soul. Once players have recovered the soul from a guest, the guest will become hostile. The guests can run faster than the protagonist which adds an element of stealth.
