Floigan Bros.: Episode 1, also known simply as Floigan Brothers, is a cartoon-comedy third-person puzzle-platformer developed by Visual Concepts (Company) and published by Sega (Company) for the Dreamcast (Platform) in North America on July 31, 2001 and in Europe on November 23, 2001.
Set throughout the junkyard owned by the namesake pair of bumpkin brothers, Floigan Bros. puts players in the role of the older, smaller, and more clever brother Hoigle (voiced by Jason Marsden (Person)) as he helps his younger, larger and more dim-witted brother Moigle (voiced by Frank Welker (Person)) search their junkyard for the seven parts needed for Moigle's secret project, all while preventing the evil Baron Malodorous (voiced by Victor Raider-Wexler) and his underling (a cute kitten, voiced by Andrea Romano (Person)) from overrunning the junkyard with cats.
Much of the core gameplay revolves around the relationship between the two brothers, with player character Hoigle manipulating the companion character Moigle into helping him solving environmental puzzles in clever and cartoonish manners (usually through emotional manipulation and teaching him new tricks) in order to unlock more of the environment. The game is known for its open-world, light-hearted nature, with no lose condition and various mini-games to play.
Despite the game's title referring to itself as the first episode, no future installments were made.
The game is played like a traditional third-person platformer, with the core mechanic being able to manipulate the companion Moigle through various means (including summoning him to specific locations,. pointing to interesting things, picking up and offering things to him, and changing his moods by hugging/insulting him).
Players can earn points that are used to teach Moigle new things (including necessary things for game progression and bonus mini-games) and bribe Moigle to do things when he's not in the mood. As Moigle earns points himself, Hoigle can bet points against him by gambling on which color butterfly he caught in a small field of flowers.
The game includes bonus mini-games that the brothers can play together to earn points and make Moigle happy.
The game also features online connectivity, allowing players to trade their upgraded Moigle with others, chat in an in-game chatroom, and unlock monthly pieces of downloadable content (which can also be traded).
The game includes 12 monthly pieces of free downloadable content, known as Fun Moigle Things (or FMT).
