CONCEPT

Unlockable gamerpics are a form of reward for completing certain tasks in Xbox 360 games.

Gamerpics: An Overview

With the launch of the Xbox 360 (Platform), Microsoft announced that they were planning on many different ways for players to customize their profiles on the Xbox LIVE service. One of the features they unveiled was the 'Gampicer'. Gamerpictures are small 64x64 .png icons, that are displayed on a player's Gamercard. These icons can have different designs on them. An example of this is the biohazard symbol used for a Duke Nukem 3D (Game) Gamerpic, as this symbol is part of the logo used for their game. Initially, players get a basic choice of some free Gamerpics that are pre-installed on their Xbox 360 consoles. These images remain the same across all SKUs of the Xbox 360, and are basic images. Players can then opt to pay Microsoft Points (Concept) in a microtransaction on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace to purchase more Gamerpics that can then be selected. However, there are some rarer Gamerpics in existence. These pictures are unlocked through doing things in certain games, and only recently have had notifications appear to alert the player they have earned something new for their profile. Some Gamerpics will unlock through merely playing the game, or in some cases even playing the trial. Others appear from completing achievements and other such accomplishments.
