External Character Creation
CONCEPT
This is an external application usually officially packaged with preorders or as a demo to promote soon-to-be-released games.

Different from in-game Character Creation, this is an external application created by official developers or community aficionados. Once used, the player can import a character he/she created; sometimes this unlocks achievements and / or usable in-game objects and items.

Examples

Spore - Spore Creature Creator

- Released on June 18, 2008, it allowed players to design creatures that they could import once the game launched, almost 3 months later. It even received it's own, separate rating by the ESRB.

Dragon Age: Origins - Character Creator

- A pre-release demo allowed players to create a character to import once the game launched. Doing so unlocked an in-game achievement and item. The creator was released October 13, nearly a month before the November release of the game.

The Movies - StarMaker Kit

Available with pre-orders and later released as a demo, allowed players to create actors and directors to import once the game was launched.

Star Wars: Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy - Community Mod

- A community mod allowed players to use an external application to give Jaden a different look (by mix matching other character's parts).
