Overview
Squirtle is one of the starter Pokémon available from Professor Oak (Character) at the beginning of the Pokémon Red/Blue games. As a Water-type Pokémon, Squirtle is able to use attacks such as Water Gun and Bubble, as well as the HM ability Surf which allows players to ride on a Pokémon over sections of water. If the trainer chooses to begin their Pokémon journey with Squirtle, their rival will choose Bulbasaur (Concept). As Bulbasaur is a Grass-type, he has a elemental advantage over Squirtle. As a Water-type Pokémon, Squirtle is strong against Fire-type Pokémon such as Charmander (Concept).
As a Water-type Pokémon, Squirtle takes double the damage from Electric and Grass-type moves. However, it only takes half the normal damage from Fire, Water, Ice, and Steel-type attacks.
Squirtle first appears in the Anime Cartoon series in episode 12 ("Here Comes the Squirtle Squad"). A group of Squirtles that were abandoned by their trainers banded together to form a gang, and Ash Ketchum (Character) captures their leader. Squirtle first appears in Pokémon versions Red andamp;amp;amp; Blue as one of the three starter Pokémon in these games.
Evolution
Squirtle evolves into Wartortle (Concept) at level 16, and Wartortle evolves into Blastoise (Concept) at level 36.
