Force Lightning

CONCEPT

An iconic Dark Side Force power made famous by Emperor Palpatine that entails generating blasts of lightning from one's fingertips.

Though most often associated with the Dark Side of the Force (such that some iterations of the Jedi Order outright forbade its use), Force Lightning is not a power restricted to Dark Siders, and many Jedi and other Force Users not aligned with the Sith have made use of the power.

Jedi who have used the power include various Jedi from the Old Republic era such as Revan, the Jedi Exile, Bastila Shan, Jolee Bindo, and Vrook Lamar, and also some later Jedi such as Luke Skywalker and his wife in Legends Mara Jade, as well as some of the Jedi of Luke's academy in Legends like Kyle Katarn and his apprentice Jaden Korr. Plo Koon used a version of Force Lightning he called "Electric Judgment". Light Side use of Force Lightning was also sometimes called "Emerald Lightning".

Though his mechanical limbs is said to have made generation of Force Lightning impossible for him, Darth Vader has nevertheless shown the ability to use it in a few Star Wars video games, specifically Masters of Teras Kasi and the Revenge of the Sith tie-in game, the former of which giving him a unique means of casting Force Lightning due to his mechanical limbs preventing him from using it normally. Similarly, while Darth Maul never displayed the power in film, he nevertheless can use it in Jedi Power Battles.

Force Lightning is most commonly either blue or a purplish-indigo color. However, some characters in Legends and elsewhere have shown the ability to use red Force Lightning. Likewise, Mother Talzin in the Clone Wars is shown using a green variant, and members of the Eternal Empire used a yellow-orange variant.
