Saphira is a female blue dragon. Before she hatched she was stolen from Galbatorix by Brom and Jeod. Arya, an elf is transferring the egg to the Varden to be hatched. However, the egg is wanted by many and Arya teleports it into an area called the Spine. At that very moment a young man named, Eragon stumble what he thinks is a blue "stone". Eragon takes this egg home where Saphira hatches after she picks Eragon to be her rider. After hatching Saphira grows rapidly, and after the death of Eragon's unlce, Garrow, she accompanies Eragon and Brom on their journies. Saphira has the ability to fly and breath fire
