Barry Bonds is the son of Bobby Bonds, a pro baseball player who was with the San Francisco Giants (Concept) when Barry was a kid. Barry excelled at baseball from a young age and went on to be one of the greatest, and most controversial, players in MLB history. Bonds won two MVP awards while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates (Concept), but his mercurial personality alienated coaches, teammates, the press, and the fans.
In 1993 Barry Bonds became a free agent, signing a lucrative deal with the San Francisco Giants. Bonds won five more MVP awards while playing in San Francisco. He also set the record for most home runs hit in a single season with 73 in 2001, and most home runs in a career with 762. Despite the individual success, Bonds never won a World Series.
Barry Bonds' career was irrevocably damaged by being implicated in the widespread steroid scandal that plagued baseball in the 2000's. As a result, Bonds was kept out of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
