Overview
Venom Snake or Punished Snake is the main character of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. He is voiced by Kiefer Sutherland.
Venom/Punished Snake is not actually Naked Snake/Big Boss, but is instead his body double. He was the medic on the helicopter at the end of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, and took a massive amount of damage during the explosion of Paz and crash thereafter. Venom Snake spent nine years in a coma, at one point having plastic surgery during his unconscious state to look even closer to Big Boss than he already did. Big Boss, reasoning that this man was his best operative in Militaires Sans Frontières, had him made into his body double to throw Skull Face off of his trail. Heavily bandaged and given plastic surgery, himself, Big Boss watched over Venom Snake. When Venom Snake came to, Big Boss told him to call him Ishmael.
While Venom Snake built up Diamond Dog, Big Boss would go on to found Outer Heaven. At some point until 1995, Big Boss and Venom Snake would change places again, thus leaving Venom Snake as the head of Outer Heaven. In 1995, Big Boss would send Solid Snake to infiltrate Outer Heaven, hoping the rookie would fail. Solid Snake managed to exceed Big Boss's expectations and succeeded in his mission by destroying both Metal Gear and Outer Heaven, and also killing Venom Snake, who was going by Big Boss as well at that time.
