God of War: Ascension brings back Kratos in typical God of War fashion. The game is pretty much the same combat system as previous ones with a few tweaks to your equipment and minor combat additions (some "killing" mini-games) . The game retains the epic visuals that its predecessors are known for. Sometimes the set pieces are forced on you with major camera pullbacks which can lead to some difficult fights where you can't tell what is going on. Thankfully this only happened a few times throughout the game. The game controls the same as the other games but the roll dodging doesn't seem as useful. I was consistently getting hit while dodging which I don't remember happening in previous games though I could be not remembering it correctly. Some parts of the game were difficult and required multiple retries due to some monsters who have long and far reaching attack combos or a series of difficult enemies with no healing in between. Again this was mostly caused by being out of practice and I was much better at the combat by the end of the game. The story is nothing to get too excited over but it did provide some great moments and most of the boss battles were quite enjoyable.
Ascension is the first game of the series to have multiplayer included. There are competitive modes and cooperative modes. There are four different skill trees to level up in and earn abilities with.
If you have enjoyed the previous God of War games and are ready for some more then definitely check this game out. It was a fun game to play and I would recommend it.
