Darksiders 2

I recently went back to Darksiders 2 to finish up the last few achievements I had left to get. I was reminded of why I liked the game so much. The combat is my favorite part of the game. It features a good number of combos, weapons, and abilities to use while ripping through the many enemies in the game. There are a good number of different enemy types and the combat never got stale for me.

The game features a wide variety of locations including a forest environment, the dead lands, an angel world, and finally a demon realm. These all provide pretty distinct looking environments to run around in and explore. Each zone has dungeons in it that you need to complete to advance the story. The dungeons feature some good puzzle elements that utilize mechanics in interesting ways including a portal gun and some time travel.

For me there were only a few negatives. The big one was the story. Darksiders 1 ended with the final seal being broken for real and you see the 3 horseman flying through the air to join War. Instead of continuing from this point Darksiders 2 shows what Death was doing while War was doing the stuff in Darksiders 1. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it killed the hype generated from the end of Darksiders 1. There also is not much substance to the story and it really drags along towards the middle of the game. Another small grievance I had was the low frame rate on the Xbox version. I usually don't mind stuff like this but it seemed bad in this game, even just moving the camera around Death was jagged.

Darksiders 2 was a fun game but in terms of continuing the story not what I was hoping for it to be.
