Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation

I started Assassin's Creed III: Liberation last year when I bought the Vita bundle with that game. I got distracted and didn't play much until recently when I decided to finish the game before the new one came out. The game definitely feels like an Assassin's Creed game though not as polished as console versions. The gameplay is mostly the same as consoles with a few problems. The combat is the same type of combat as the consoles games except I never was able to get the countering to work. Also running and climbing didn't feel as tight and led to some issues every now and then. My biggest problems were the inclusion of Vita specific gameplay elements (movement and camera). There are multiple times where you find a map or something and the Vita directs you to point the rear facing camera towards a bright light which will allow your on screen lens to decipher the picture. This almost never worked and I would just move the Vita all around until it popped. The other issue was one ball in a maze puzzle where you control the tilt of the maze via the Vita's motion controls. This flat out does not work and the maze does not follow what direction you are tilting the Vita. This maze (which has a 100% sync of completing in 2 minutes) took me more than 10 minutes because of the awful control and I almost wanted to stop playing all together. The graphics and sound were very good for being on a handheld and it really shows what the Vita can do. The story felt disjointed at times but the pacing felt pretty good through most of the game. Just like in every other AC game there are plenty of collectibles and side missions to do if you want to get some extra trophies.

Overall the game was pretty good and if you like the AC franchise you will enjoy this game. However, an HD version of the game is being released and I would recommend getting it on that one so you can avoid the awful Vita specific controls.
