Chapter 20 now, and my tactic is still successfull: When in danger, leap over a edge to hang from it, wait for the enemy to come close and press square. Just killed 5 enemies this way - one by one they came to me - I didn't even had to bother sliding along the edge I was hanging from - and one by one they got pulled down to certain death.
