I'm playing through my pile of shame in this current winter chill. I need to finish Uncharted and Halo 3, but Dead Rising, of all things, has grabbed my attention again. I'm playing through my pile of shame in this current winter chill. I need to finish Uncharted and Halo 3, but Dead Rising, of all things, has grabbed my attention again. I don't want to go back into the annoying things that game did; that dead horse has been soundly beaten. But that is a damn good game! And there's still not another game that's quite like it. Dead Rising starts with the themes of Resident Evil, but then it adds a shitload more zombies. Scarcity was a key element to the tension of Resident Evil, but Dead Rising is able to just put weapons, healing items, and enemies all over the place and it's still just as scary. The free-roaming environments are unique in a genre that tends to rely on restricting you to a set path. And just for added spice, the photography mechanic is like a twisted version of Pokemon Snap.

Getting back into Dead Rising just makes me want a sequel even more. If I can just be a graphics whore for a moment, I have to say that Dead Rising is really showing its age. But to see all those zombies in the Unreal 3 Engine would be awesome!
