Lots of people will try to tell you that Flower is not a videogame, and that it is actually some sort of interactive art. Don't listen to these people, as they are wrong. As beautiful and awe-inspiring as Flower is, it does have some very clear goals and objectives. The core of the game revolves around controlling the wind using Sixaxis controls to steer your flower petals around a vast environment, collecting more petals to open your way forward. As you do this, the landscapes of the game gradually change from bleak, barren fields to lush, vibrant meadows.
The general controls of the game work extremely well, making this probably the best use of Sixaxis controls so far on the PS3. The speed of the wind is pressure sensitive, so the shoulder buttons end up being the best choice. But the true draw of the game is the visuals. Watching your stream of petals fly majestically through the air as you restore color to the world is one of the best examples of the PS3's power thus far. The final level is so rewarding in the way that the narrative sets it up, it may be worth the price of admission alone.
Don't let Flower's pretty looks and whimsical nature turn you off. It is one of the best offerings that PSN has to offer, and a great experience for the asking price.
