Mushihime-Sama2005

5 out of 5 stars

The Bug Princess is finally widely available in the USA. Mushihimesama is one of Cave's most beautiful shooters and the culmination of a decade in developing the craft that is a modern shooter. Significant level of detail is given to enemy placement and movement, as well as bullet speed and patterns. Quality Cave shooters are more like a well choreographed dances and Mushihimesama is maybe the pinnacle of Cave's…

Ys Origin2006

3 out of 5 stars

I've enjoyed the game for the time that I've played it. The battle system is frenetic, the music is fantastic, graphics are solid for the games origins and age. It is fairly straight forward dungeon crawling, which I like, as there isn't much fluff to get in the way. Very little grinding, bosses are pretty epic and very fun. I like how the camera can change/be fixed in some sections to allow you to run around the…

Deus Ex: Human Revolution2011

4 out of 5 stars

There's not much left to be said about Human Revolution that you may not have already gleaned from pre release hype. With that said, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is largely worth much of the praise heaped up on it. It's beautiful, if a bit (okay almost totally) brown, the AI doesn't seem to have evolved much over similar games of yester-generation. The augmentations really allow you to chisel out your very own…

E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy2011

4 out of 5 stars

Offering a completely valid opinion on E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy is difficult. E.Y.E. is a layered, obtuse, and difficult game due in part to the developers inability to completely flesh out some of the game's finer points as well purposefully obfuscated lore. Objectively, E.Y.E. is a Cyberpunk FPS/RPG hybrid akin to Deus Ex. You have the freedom to create and play your character however you want. Should you choose…

L.A. Noire2011

3 out of 5 stars

There are few good things to say about LA Noire, but what little there is actually means very much. LA Noire is, as you probably know, leader in the field of facial motion capturing. They've managed to record facial animation in a way that surpasses the uncanny valley and for that LA Noire earns praise. LA Noire began development in 2004 and, sadly, it feels like a first gen 360 title. The sandbox world is strange…

Bulletstorm2011

3 out of 5 stars

There are lots of good things about Bulletstorm, a modern, gory, vulgar FPS with a beautiful color palette, interesting level design, and a focus on very specific gameplay to boot. I'm sure you're aware of the SkillShot system. Multiple weapons with unlockable secondary fire that awards skill points for successful, and specific, shots and combinations. Grab the pistol, blast a flare into a group of enemies, then…

Crackdown 2: Project Sunburst2010

2 out of 5 stars

I have more fun explaining this game to my parents and less tech savvy friends than I actually do playing it. I pull up a map of my home town, plop a base right onto of my house, and show everyone how I'm defending our streets from the zombie hoard. It's pretty cool that the enemies and vehicles use actual road data to move about but once the initial flash wears off there's not much too it. The whole point of the…

Zombies.2012

3 out of 5 stars

Big Rooster dropped the ball years ago and now Babaroga has finally brought Zombies!!! to Xbox Live. Sadly it's only available on WP7 so far but the same game is scheduled to hit Live Arcade and PSN... eventually. It's worth the wait! Very competent implementation. All of the rules are there and it's very VERY easy to pick up and play. If you've ever played Carcassonne on Live then you're familiar with this…

Fable III2010

3 out of 5 stars

Hack Slash Repeat. Never much of a puzzle and the story is only so so. I do appreciate the humor in the game. I mean, the loading icon is a chicken! Some of the characters are funny and the graphics are okay (really bad lighting in some places). The worst part is that in an effort to streamline the game they made it feel a bit... empty. I want my RPG segments back, dammit. The "hype" behind the game is pretty…

Alpha Protocol2010

4 out of 5 stars

So-so game play, great story. Immersible and truly reacts to what you do in the game world, unlike some other RPGs. Not very customizable either. Game really picks up after the beginning Saudi Missions, with some of the Taiwan missions being very very good. I played through it twice. I'm not the type to really finish games now days if they don't really grip me. Voice acting is okay. It would have been very nice if…
