The worse of the Final Fantasy main series. While I don't personally like Final Fantasy VII I get why some people appreciate it, but why people love this is beyond me. The plot is nonsensical and basically goes nowhere, and mechanically is fulled of isolated, useless, complexity that has really no reason to be there if not to make the game artificially longer for really no reason.
I genuinely approached this with an open mind. Sure I hated the first one, but if there's one thing that I couldn't say about it is that it didn't meant well. Also they couldn't possibly do worse than what they did with that one, couldn't they? Then I saw that the pause menu is a 3d environment...
It's not just that this is an unnecessary sequel to a game that I honestly quite like. It's not that it disregards any interesting theme that the original has and just delivers the most generic jrpg plot.
