Red Dead Redemption

2. Red Dead Redemption

If someone asked me what this game was, I would say "like GTA IV but a Western." because that's what it is. It has the same sardonic humor, fun gameplay, and "interesting" characters as GTA IV did, all weaved together into an experience that left me wanting more, in a good way.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

4. Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Out of all the games on this list, Bad Company 2 is the game I've spent the most time with. Sure the single-player portion of the game wasn't mind-boggling, but just when I thought I escaped this game's grasp, its addictive multiplayer kept pulling me back in.

Sid Meier's Civilization V

5. Sid Meier's Civilization V

Ugh... I have a love/hate relationship with this game. I love the game for its addictiveness and fun, but it also destroys my to do list with an efficiency like no other.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty

Heavy Rain

7. Heavy Rain

Heavy Rain isn't so much a game as it is a gripping narrative that just happens to take the form of a video game. Never has a game made me care so much about the outcome of my actions.

Bayonetta

8. Bayonetta

Bayonetta was quite the surprise. It wasn't that it was about a crazy 9 foot-dominatrix who annihilated her enemies with demon hair that caught me off guard (although it did raise some eyebrows). It was the fact that I loved it. I'm not a big DMC fan so I came into this game with a certain level of suspicion, and left with a sense of fantastic bewilderment.

Darksiders

10. Darksiders

Wow. I never thought a game that came out on the first day of the year would actually make it onto my top 10, but Darksiders managed to do it. Sure it borrows countless gameplay mechanics from the Zelda series, but unlike so many other games that do the same thing, this game is actually great.
