Red Dead Redemption

1. Red Dead Redemption

Love westerns, always thought there needed to be more western games. This is pretty much the ultimate western game, thank you Rockstar! Managed to finish this game just before the end of the year and it gets even more amazing towards the end; pretty amazing late title card.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty

2. StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty

Wow, worth the 12 year wait is an understatement. The campaign is amazing, the multiplayer is great even though I'm not great at it. One of the most polished games I have ever seen.

Mass Effect 2

3. Mass Effect 2

An amazing followup to a great but deeply flawed game. The combat is legitimately fun, though not quite as good as a Gears of War. The story is amazing, the choices feel good and the connections to the first game's choices completely had me flabbergasted.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

4. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

Never expected this to be as expansive or as fun as it is. Unlike most people I did know there was a single player campaign but I expected it to be short and mediocre with no Desmond stuff like the PSP game, not a great 25hr adventure with more Desmond than ever. And the multiplayer is a blast.

Kirby's Epic Yarn

5. Kirby's Epic Yarn

Its soooooo cute. Amazing graphics and some very clever gameplay. I never stopped smiling while I played this.

Limbo

6. Limbo

Best downloadable game of the year easily. Limbo's amazing art style and atmosphere were great, but I also really enjoyed its great puzzle platforming.

Sid Meier's Civilization V

7. Sid Meier's Civilization V

A great re-evaluation of classic series. Combat is actually strategic and fun thanks to the hex grid. "One more turn" has never been in as full an effect. It was so good that I even persisted when it got to the point where it was crashing every other turn.

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX

8. Pac-Man Championship Edition DX

CE was an amazing update to the classic, this takes everything and goes crazy and it is so good for it.

Darksiders

9. Darksiders

Absolutely came out of nowhere to floor me. When I glanced at this during the E3 coverage I thought it was another God of War clone, I was not expecting one of the best Zelda inspired games ever made.

Picross 3D

10. Picross 3D

Like Sudoku in 3D, using the numbers as clues chisel out blocks until you find a shape which then springs to life with delightful little animations. I really had trouble at times putting this game down when I should be doing things like sleeping. A perfect execution of a great concept.
