Piper was one of the main villains in the early "Superstar Era" of the eighties WWF. His host segment, "Piper's Pit" was the stage for many of the major plot developments that took place in the federation. Perhaps most notably, Andre the Giant turned on Hulk Hogan during a segment that set up the Wrestlemania III main event.
Piper's feud with Hulk Hogan and Mr. T was one of the main draws for the first two Wrestlemanias. He once said to Hogan, "Do you think [the fans] would have loved you so much, if they hadn't hated me?" Very valid point.
At Wrestlemania VI, Roddy Piper painted himself half black in a match with Bad News Brown. This left nearly everyone thoroughly confused on whether it was racist, anti-racist, or if he was just trolling everyone. Regardless, it was still considered awesome.
Piper was also an actor of some renown, famously starring in John Carpenter's 1988 cult classic, "They Live." His line from the film, "I'm have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass... and I'm all out of bubblegum" has been used in Duke Nukem 3D and has been referenced many other times in other media. He also wants you to put on the glasses.
More recently, he was in an episode of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" playing an aged and mentally unstable minor league wrestler.
Piper was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005.
