I barely remember this. Someone linked me to him like over 10 years ago. Didn't know what the deal was but it seems the Nintendo community was somehow in stitches.
Yeah the GTA ganes are generally very solid. I think with GTA V I can not name a single track though.
However when I was young and we got our Dreamcast (which I still play to this day) and experienced Crazy Taxi 2 for the first time, that got me into The Offspring. I didn't even know they were a band at first, I legit thought it was just the soundtrack to the game.
It's wish fulfillment on his part. He's old-school and wants those certain old qualities of games back. He could literally do anything else and expect to make more money than this. Making a console is really hard it turns out... but at least this one has got character and some interesting things going for. I like the idea that any phone can be a controller. I like the way they thought about game licenses - but in the end it'd be better to just create a platform on just that - phones. No need to design, sell and support hardware. It's crazy to see how far it's gotten into development already. The games are clearly very low budget... I wish him the best but w/e
And yes Doug T. sucks. I'm not emotionally invested in Earthworm Jim (not a fan of David Perry platformers, where you can't tell where you can go) but one bigot less in the industry the better.
The attention to detail for things you're not supposed to access. Like inaccessible interiors (like the cool cube interior shader in Forza Horizon) and 3D skyboxes. I also love replays and director modes in games like Driver 1-3, GTA IV PC and so on.
If you play a story-driven game and never complete it, it breaks the story-teller's heart for sure. And besides skill being a barrier of entry there's also time. Even subconsciously we make a decision all day as to how we should spend our time. Otherwise we'd all be grinding it away at those hundred hour long JRPGs if we all didn't crave that much deeper sense of progression that transcends dialogue boxes telling you a party member leveled up.
