Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall is estimated to be around 320,000 sq km (800km x 400km). Check out this comparison image:

Daggerfall used a lot of random generation and repeated assets so it's a little bit different of a beast than some of these other worlds that were handcrafted.

Seeing as this game is coming out on essentially last gen hardware I'm not expecting anywhere near the density of stuff that was found in something like Witcher 3 which also had a smaller world.

Next time they make that image they should include roguelikes, just to point out how ridiculous the whole size thing is

Square miles is kind of a meaningless metric unless movement speed and content are both taken into account.

Just Cause 2 had a massive map, but it's a chore to get across because there's nothing there except the same villages over and over. Skyrim was kind of the same

Shadow of the Colossus is mostly empty, but the atmosphere and the puzzle aspect of finding new colossi and that feeling of exploration more than make up for it

It's all a matter of perspective

@flstyle: Kojima? Really? That trailer was the worst

The PS conference seemed fine. Really, they all seemed fine. Nothing interested me, but people into those consoles seemed to be served. Not sure what anyone was expecting. New hardware?

Game looks pretty rad, looking forward to it.

This is immensely frustrating.

Why?

Nintendo is under no obligation to provide a second playable character, and there are plenty of franchises where no playable female avatar is offered and there's no discussion surrounding it. It would be nice, sure, but it'd also be nice if you could play through Doom as a female. Don't see people clamoring over that.

Their attempt to rationalize the decision is frustrating, not the decision itself.

If they let the rumor die as a rumor it would be fine. If they simply said "We considered it but it just wasn't the game we wanted to make" it would be fine. I could be mildly disappointed instead of totally baffled.

They can't really say they just don't want to. If they did, they would just be accused of being misogynistic. And the truth is, whether they want to or not, it's probably just not in the cards. The direction of this game was probably decided like three years ago, and once that's decided they have to steam forward. You can't just change or add a main character like it's a snap.

I think the discussion should instead be why this series in particular is getting singled out. I would love a female main character choice in Zelda, but I certainly don't expect Nintendo to do it just because I want it.

I'm not really bothered by it either way, but isn't the reason they've given more offensive than just outright saying "We wanted the main character to remain male"? Instead, they've just come up with some bollocks about Trifoce balance or whatever and that makes little sense. Plus, there's this bit:

if we have princess Zelda as the main character who fights, then what is Link going to do?

I mean, Link could always get kidnapped and Zelda could pick up a sword and shield and go save him, I dunno. Or you could just make Link female. "That's not what we wanted to do, that wasn't in our vision of the game" would have just been a much clearer, much better thing to say.

Then the question would be, "What do you have against women? Why don't you want to have a female main character?" I just don't see the point in attacking or questioning this specific game on this issue. No one's really been able to say why this specific instance matters other than now we're all talking about how they answered the issue and not whether it's an issue in the first place.

People also seem to be making a lot of assumptions, such as it's easy to replace the main character, that they ever had time to do so, that they're lying about why they didn't consider it, and that Zelda gets kidnapped in this game.

A game featuring Zelda as the main character would be neat and would be an empowering thing for little girls, etc., sure. This isn't that. Hopefully they consider doing that, as it'd be cool.

Like, are you for LGBTQIA rights? Do you want women to be able to choose whether they want an abortion or not? Are you against torture? Are you for education? The rights of minorities? The first amendment? Do you not want to waste money on another wall along the Mexican border? Then you should probably vote for her

Why are you assuming that she will fulfill her political promises? She's under no obligation to.

My comment was directed at people who are motivated to vote for a candidate. If you're not willing to vote for a politician who shares your values simply because they are a politician, this discussion can't really go anywhere.

I wonder how many people have actually looked at Hillary's platform and how many have just seen the Sanders/Clinton meme and thought, "She doesn't accurately reflect my love of Harry Potter!"

Oh god no. Taco Bell and wrestling are both overwhelmingly terrible, the only good MGS story is the one from the first game, and I like being open to new ideas.

The Rock is okay. It's not some amazing action movie. Con Air is 5,000,000 times better.
