I can't get any videos to play at all now on my laptop. Was working fine on Friday - today just get the spinning "buffering" screen forever.

Edit: No configuration changes or Windows updates on my end.

Edit: Seems to just be the Brave browser, other browsers are playing the videos fine. Guess I need to figure out which part of Brave to disable 😆

Edit: Gah! Brave was blocking auto-play by default. Move along, nothing to see here 😁

@bromil: That sounds pretty rough, and I can see why it'd make you sceptical of GamePass. I guess I haven't been in that position for a while and forgot what it was like.

Waiting for the Series X update (and assuming it'll be fixed by then too)

@bigsocrates: Still don't think I buy it. Nobody complains that they don't have enough time (or data cap) to try every single Netflix show and film. You don't need to watch everything, you just need something available that you haven't seen before that appeals to you - same with GamePass. At least, that's how I think about it.

@navster15: Yeah, I'm a bit confused by the data cap argument against GamePass too. I don't think anyone's being forced to download ALL the games at once, are they?

Yes, you could make a concerted effort to blow your cap with GamePass, but in normal use I think a lot of people would probably be fine.

Played the Stadia demo and really liked the gameplay - keen to get it, but going to wait a few weeks while I finish what I'm playing just now - knowing Ubisoft it'll be half price in a month by the time I get round to getting it 😆

With Instant On the Xbox is still "on" in a lower power mode when you turn if "off". It's not a "problem" as such - it's working as designed - it's just that you're leaving a computer turned on all the time so of course it will generate some heat.

Digital Foundry found that in Instant On mode the Series X still uses about 30 watts of power constantly, which is less than my satellite TV box.

Personally I find the Series X starts so quickly I just use the Energy Saving mode which turns it off completely.

Hang on, I thought it was Xboxes you used to heat your flat? I'm confused 😕

I'm not worried at all about losing data (I've switched between enough Xboxes to know that that's a non-issue), I just don't want to be left with a 12" x 6" x 6", 10 lb plastic brick in 5 years.

Personally, I'm reassured seeing that the Series X has a replaceable drive. It looks like a tricky job, but do-able 👍

PS5 though 😞 ... but I don't have one of those ...

I think I might love that idea ... I might be doing an on-the-side playthrough of Skyrim SE on my Series X at present ...
