James Walls
PERSON
James "Jim" Walls is the creator of the Police Quest series of games from Sierra On-Line. Walls was the story writer and designer of Police Quest I through Police Quest III. Before leaving Sierra On-Line he also worked on the less successful espionage adventure game Codename: ICEMAN.

From Police Officer to Game Designer

Walls was a former California Highway Patrol officer of 15 years. While on leave from the CHP in 1985, Sierra On-Line founder Ken Williams (Person) invited Walls to be involved in a police themed adventure game. Walls accepted and became the designer and producer of Police Quest. He had some challenges in his career change, but his input contributed to the success of the franchise and Sierra's reputation as an adventure game powerhouse.

"When I first sat down in front of a computer to begin the design story of the original 'Police Quest' I had to be shown where the on/off switch was. I typed the entire story with two fingers (after all, the only skills I had at the time were chasing people down and throwing them in jail). Well, the rest is history. Police Quest became a big seller, so naturally, along came Police Quest 2, then Codename: Iceman, followed by the final game in the series Police Quest 3."
