The Tokarev TT-33 pistol is a semi-automatic handgun used by Russian soldiers during WWII. The Tokarev TT-33 was originally designed as a replacement for the Nagant M1895 revolver, that was used by the Russian military. The Tokarev TT-33 was made from 1930-1965. Approximately 1.6 million TT-33 handguns were made.

Design

The design of the Tokarev TT-33 looks quite similar to that of the Colt M1911. However, the Tokarev TT-33 had a simpler hammer system. The Tokarev TT-33 was chambered to hold a 7.62x25mm Tokarev cartridge. This round was based on the German 7.63x25mm Mauser round, which was used in the Mauser C96. Due to the simple design of the Tokarev TT-33, it was a very strong and reliable pistol. It could survive a large amount of abuse and still work well, similarly to the AK47.

Variants

During WWII, the Wehrmacht captured a large quantity of Russian TT-33 pistols. These pistols were issued to soldiers as the Pistole 615. The German soldiers were able to fire the Mauser rounds they used for the C96 from the TT-33, due to the similarity between the rounds. Russian production of the TT-33 pistol happened in 1954. However, many copies of the pistol were produced by other countries. This is a list of the different countries that produced the pistol, and the name they gave it:

Pakistani police still use the TT-33 as a sidearm, but it is being phased out by the Beretta and Glock.
