Taxis are generally used as either modes of transportation or as obstacles, although a number of games have been developed based around driving taxis such as Taxi Racer (Game) and Super Taxi Driver (Game). Perhaps the most famous entry in the taxi driver subgenre is Crazy Taxi (Franchise). In Crazy Taxi, players must deliver customers under the time limit while performing stunts to rack up a higher fare.

In the WarioWare (Franchise) series of games, Dribble (Character) and Spitz (Character) have their very own taxi and in some games, they can drive in various adventures. In Grand Theft Auto IV (Game) and V, taxis can be used to fast travel around their respective cities. Finally, one level of Elite Beat Agents (Game) features a cab driver who the eponymous agents must help deliver a pregnant woman to the hospital.
